• Avoid sending shirts with sequins, glitter vinyl, rhinestones, zippers, metal grommets, and heavy embroidery. They can break needles and damage machines and can’t be used in this quilt.
• Avoid delicate materials like silk, satin, rayon, viscose, chiffon, mesh, tulle, lace, and thin polyester or nylon like windbreakers or costume fabric. These materials tend to be heat-sensitive, unravel, or distort and are not good for this type of quilt.* Not sure if a shirt or garment will work? Don’t automatically leave it out, ask me first.

Every quilt is individually quoted based on size, layout complexity, and additional materials. Base prices by size are:
Crib (9 shirts) 42" x 42" - $325
Lap (12 shirts) 42" x 56" - $375
Throw (16 shirts) 56" x 56" - $450
Twin (20 shirts) 56" x 70" - $500
Twin XL (25 shirts) 70" x 70" $550

Collage Style Quilt
Can I choose the layout of my quilt?
Yes! I offer different quilt styles, and I can help determine the best layout for your collection of shirts.
There is the traditional grid-style layout. This layout consists of uniform-sized squares and can look great with the addition of boarders and sashing.
I also offer collage-style quilts. I design the layout around the individual sizes and graphics on the shirts to create a cohesive finished quilt. Because of the variety in baby and children’s clothing sizes the collage-style works especially well.
Can I Choose the colors for my quilt?
Yes! you can choose your preferred colors for the sashing, borders, and other quilt fabrics. I’ll work with you to create a color palette that compliments your shirts and the overall look you’re hoping to achieve.
What fabrics should not be included?
Some fabrics are not suitable for quilt construction, including silk, satin, mesh, costume fabrics, nylon, sequins, glitter vinyl, zippers, metal garnets, and heavily embellished fabrics. These fabrics can melt or distort, easily fray, break machine needles, be difficult to stabilize or sew and may not hold up well in your finished quilt.
What if I have a shirt that is especially sentimental but it doesn’t meet the fabric requirements?
If a particular item is important to you, let me know. Even if it isn’t suitable for use as a quilt block, there may be another way to incorporate or preserve that piece.
How long does a custom quilt take?
Custom quilts are handmade and require several steps, from preparing your garments and designing the layout to piecing, quilting, and finishing. Turnaround times can vary depending on my current schedule and the complexity of your project. Your estimate timeline will be discussed before your project is booked.
Do I get to see the layout before you make my quilt?
Yes! I can send you picture of the layout plan prior to sewing. For custom collage-style quilts, the layout is an important part of the design process. We’ll discuss your preferences and I’ll use that information from your inquiry to create a layout that works with your shirts. I use a design program to create mockups and can send the mockup prior to sewing. For the grid style layout, YOU can choose the placement to each shirt or I can arrange them. If you want me to choose the shirt placement I can send pictures before sewing.
Do you ship completed quilts?
yes! completed quilts can be shipped to you. Shipping costs and arrangements will be discussed as part of your project.
How do I get started?
The first step is simple: complete the custom quilt inquiry form. From there, we’ll work together to create a quilt that is uniquely yours.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many shirts do I need?
The number of shirts depends on the size of quilt you choose. I offer sizes from crib through king, with options ranging from 9 - 49 shirts. If using baby or children’s clothing more shirts will be necessary per size. If you have a different number of shirts than the standard sizes listed, don’t worry! Custom layouts may be possible.
Do I need to cut my shirts before sending them?
No! Please do not cut your shirts unless I specifically ask you to. I will provide preparation instructions once your project has been approved. Keeping the shirts intact allows me to determine the best way to use each design and create your layout.
Can you make a quilt with different types of clothing?
Absolutely! T-shirts are the most common, but I can often incorporate sweatshirts, jerseys, baby clothes, and other meaningful garments. Because every material is different, please contact me if you’re unsure whether something will work.
Can I include things other than shirts?
Yes! Special pieces such as pockets, small fabric pieces, and other meaningful elements may be incorporated depending on the project. If there’s something special you’d love to include, mention it on your inquiry form so we can discuss the best way to use it.
